Occupational Therapy Month: Supporting Independence, Confidence, and Everyday Living

April 6, 2026 – TWINSBURG, Ohio

April is Occupational Therapy Month, a time to honor the therapists, caregivers, and support teams who help people rebuild confidence, strengthen daily skills, and live more independently. It’s also a moment to acknowledge the individuals working every day to adapt, grow, and thrive with the right tools and support behind them.

With National Wheelchair Month taking place just last month, this month continues an important conversation about mobility, accessibility, and dignity. Occupational therapists play a pivotal role in that journey, helping people navigate routines, safely use assistive devices, and access the medical supplies that support active, empowered living.

Recent updates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are also helping reduce barriers to that independence. CMS has revised the Urological Supplies Local Coverage Determination (LCD), allowing certain diagnoses, such as spinal cord injury, to qualify patients for sterile intermittent catheter kits without previous requirements like multiple documented UTIs.1 CMS has also introduced new HCPCS codes for hydrophilic catheters, effective January 1, 2026, helping create clearer product classifications and more consistent coverage pathways.2

At Edgepark, we’re committed to working with payers to make these transitions easier for patients and care teams. We align our processes with updated CMS guidelines, help patients understand coverage changes, support accurate documentation, and simplify access to essential supplies, so patients can stay focused on living their lives, not navigating paperwork.

We also proudly support the United Spinal Association, an organization dedicated to advancing independence, accessibility, and community support for people with spinal cord injuries and wheelchair users nationwide. Their mission reinforces our commitment to advocacy and patient-first care.

Occupational Therapy Month reminds us that independence is about people, their goals, their resilience, and the systems that empower them. Edgepark is honored to support that journey every step of the way.
